After CM Punk was spotted in Scotland ahead of Clash At The Castle, fans began to suspect there could be some shenanigans in the main event. And this is precisely what would occur when Punk appeared following a ref bump dressed as a replacement and kicked Drew McIntyre low so Damian Priest could retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Yet despite this predictable conclusion, some fans on social media were left wondering how Punk got a referee’s shirt so quickly in kayfabe. However, demonstrating that WWE actually thought ahead, they have now shared backstage footage on social media explaining this, which can be viewed below.
This is now the second time that McIntrye has failed to become a world champion at a Clash At The Castle event, with him losing to Roman Reigns due to an outside interface from Solo Sikoa at 2022’s event. Still, while being a disappointment to McIntyre’s fans, WWE’s primary focus at the time was promoting Reigns as their biggest star, and a lengthy title run was considered an important part of his overall presentation.
