In recent days there have been videos shared on social media of Steve Austin, who turns 58 next month, working out extremely hard, and with him having previously said he’d be open to wrestling, again, fans have been speculating about another match. This has resulted in Fightful Select reaching out to their contracts, as they’ve now posted an update revealing that WWE has offered the WWE Hall Of Famer another match. Although, they and Austin are currently apart on a dollar amount.
We’re told WWE at least wants him to do more with the company. Specifically, we’re told that while the Vince McMahon regime had hoped to have Austin come back to do another match, that the Triple H regime had actually made an offer for Austin to do another match.
The sources that we spoke to weren’t sure if that meant for a Saudi Arabia match, WrestleMania, or anything else, but that there was an offer. Those sources presumed it was for WrestleMania in LA, but wouldn’t confirm that or a potential opponent. Another source indicated that initially, Austin and WWE were far apart on terms.
Fightful SelectAustin officially retired in 2003 due to his neck injuries becoming too much for him. Yet over the years, held reveal he was doing better and teased a comeback multiple times, specifically against CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. Nevertheless, when he did not wrestle at WrestleMania 32, which was in his home state of Texas, it appeared any fans hoping to see him ever wrestle again would be disappointed.
However, following Kevin Owens disparaging Texas, Austin announced he’d be at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas for a confrontation. Yet the company was careful never to promote an actual match, and most fans expected Austin to have a faceoff with Owens before hitting a Stunner. In this instance, though, WWE would underpromise and overdeliver as Austin and Owens would have an impromptu No Holds Barred match, where Austin looked in phenomenal physical condition, putting on a match with Owens worthy of being the main event of a WrestleMania.
