Ric Flair made his AEW debut last October, and the promotion subsequently announced that the two-time WWE Hall of Famer had signed a multi-year deal. However, it has now been reported by Fightful Select that Flair seems to be done with the company, with him having not appeared since Sting’s retirement match at Revolution. Whether he has officially been released from his contract isn’t known, although it was noted that the Wooooo Energy sponsorship of AEW, which was paying for Flair, has ended.
“Ric Flair and AEW appear to be done. Ric Flair hasn’t appeared on All Elite Wrestling TV in ages, and isn’t factored into any creative plans for the time being, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned … In addition, we’re told that the partnership between AEW and Wooo! Energy has effectively finished. The sponsorship related to the deal pretty well paid for Flair’s appearances in AEW.”
Fightful SelectMany fans were stunned when AEW signed Flair, given they had passed on him previously due to the sexual misconduct allegations made during Dark Side of The Ring. Yet, with Flair subsequently appearing on WWE television, it seems Tony Khan felt enough time had passed and decided to hire his all-time favorite wrestler. Still, it wasn’t always plain sailing with Flair in AEW, as the promotion had to edit out his controversial comment about wanting women aged 18-28 to join him in his hotel room during a Rampage taping.
