Update On Danhausen’s AEW Absence

Danhausen is one of those rare wrestlers who managed to get himself over without being pushed by a major promotion. However, despite his popularity, he hasn’t appeared for AEW or its sister promotion, ROH, in over nine months. And now, having enquired about his status, Fightful Select has confirmed that while he remains employed until the Summer of 2025, there are no creative plans for him, with there being no recent contact between the two sides with the expectation of Danhausen seeking approval for indie dates.

“Sources Fightful has spoken to claim that AEW and Danhausen have not been in regular contact for well over six months, outside of approvals for indie dates, which are protocol for talent under AEW contract. Danhausen was set to return from injury about a year ago, and plans changing regarding his return led to Danhausen expressing frustration directly to Tony Khan … Fightful Select learned Danhausen’s AEW contract runs into the Summer of 2025, and that there are not creative plans in order right now.”

34-year-old Danhausen is best known for his comedy wrestling, and some suspect his character doesn’t fit in with AEW’s desired product. Still, despite his absence from television, he remains a major merchandise mover, and therefore, it seems doubtful he needs to worry about his long-term future in the business, with his fanbase clearly willing to spend money on him regardless of where he works.
