The Legendary Voice Of WCCW Has Passed Away

In sad news, it has been reported that Bill Mercer, best known to wrestling fans as the voice of World Class Championship Wrestling, passed away at the age of 99. The Oklahoma native worked for Fritz Von Erich’s highly acclaimed promotion between 1982 and 1987 before briefly joining Ken Mantel’s Wild West Wrestling.

Additionally, as a journalist and broadcaster, Mercer is known for his time covering the JFK Assassination in 1963, as he was presenting on radio station KRLD at the time of the shooting. He would also train more than one generation of broadcasters as he was a professor at the University of North Texas between 1965 and 2007, ensuring his legacy will live on.
