It was recently announced that AEW had formed a working relationship with CMLL, which saw lucha libre legend Místico wrestle Rocky Romero on Rampage. However, considering the long-standing rivalry between CMLL and fellow AEW partner AAA, many wondered how this would work. And now, during an interview with Wrestling Observer Live, Romero has explained the agreement set out is that CMLL and AAA talents can’t work on the same shows.
“The parameters are things like, you know, maybe no AAA talent on the same show as CMLL talent. Obviously not in the same matches as well,”
Rocky RomeroThe Mexican promotions have been ferocious rivals ever since Antonio Peña broke away from CMLL in 1992 to launch AAA in the first place. He did this because he wanted more creative freedom and took much of the young and underutilized CMLL roster with him. Therefore, 30 years on, CMLL still refuses to forgive and forget, despite AAA’s booker Konnan attempting to mend the relationship over the years.
