Former WWE Music Composer Jim Johnston Comments On Being Fired By Vince McMahon

Jim Johnston began working for WWE in the 1980s and would go on to create some of the most iconic wrestling themes of all time. However, in 2017, he departed the company due to being replaced by CFO$. And now, during a recent interview with Hannibal TV, the musician has spoken about his WWE exit, revealing that Vince McMahon personally told him he wasn’t renewing his contract. Still, Johnson confirms this didn’t come as a huge blow, as he had been considering moving on for some time.

“For about the last four or five years I was there, things got really political in a bad way. And finally, things just degraded, and Vince didn’t—Vince fired me, basically. I mean, he put it in terms of, ‘I’m not renewing your contract,’ but that’s what it means in my case. I’d actually been looking forward to moving on for a long time, in hindsight, I wish I had had the foresight or really the courage to just leave, but the force of habit just keeps you rolling.”

In total, 72-year-old Johnson spent 32 years with WWE and has been highly praised by fans for his ability to create instantly recognizable themes for talents. And while, for the most part, he wrote, composed, and produced the music alone, he would occasionally collaborate with names like Motörhead, Disturbed, Saliva, and Kid Rock for specific talent themes. Therefore, once he left the company, many thought it was only a matter of time before he was hired elsewhere, although clearly, that never happened, and he is currently enjoying his retirement.
