Falling In Reverse singer Ronnie Radke is never one to shy away from a controversy, but the shade he received from Australian politicians after the band’s highly successful tour of the continent came about through no fault of his own. Tasmania mayor Matthew Garwood attended a Falling In Reverse concert and meet-and-greet and took a picture with Radke. His opponents used the pic to call out both the politician and Radke over the singer’s past.
ABC.net reported: “Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood posted to Facebook on Sunday about meeting Ronnie Radke, lead singer of metal band Falling in Reverse and previously Escape the Fate. Radke has served prison time in the US and has previously faced charges including assault, aggravated assault, domestic violence and battery.”
Garwood captioned his photo with Radke on Facebook: “Maybe one of the most controversial characters in my generation of the hard rock music scene. Through Escape the Fate and now Falling in Reverse — Ronnie Radke! Was awesome to spend some time together and talk all things Tassie and personal growth and learning. Always a mic drop moment when I get to play the ‘Mayor card’.”
An Australian councilwoman Andrea Dawkins responded to the pic saying: “(Citizens) are understandably perplexed why our mayor would stand in solidarity with a person convicted of parole violations associated with violence. The social media post relating to this issue felt like a provocation and I am left wondering how this action serves the people of Launceston.”
Another local politician, Lindi McMahon said: “I stand in solidarity of all the women who have suffered at the hands of violence whose voices are continually silenced while men like Ronnie Radke are given hero status.”
Radke went off on those who attacked him highlighting that several accusations against him have been unfounded. His response was later reported to Australian police. Radke’s initial reaction can be viewed below, and he has since posted other heated responses via Instagram. “Do you understand that everything you read may or may not be f*cking true, you stupid b*tch? . . . You’re a disgrace to your entire city and town and I’m gonna make sure that you f*cking feel this one.” He also said: “F*ck all your councilmen and f*ck ABC News for your propaganda machine. I’m coming back with a vengeance with that sh*t.”
Radke was likely reported to authorities because he included contact information for politicians in his post saying: “I would hate for that to get you and for you to get, like, a ton of emails and calls about how – you wanna talk about f*cking equality, b*tch?”
