Punk legends the Dropkick Murphys made headlines recently during a run of St. Patrick’s Day concerts when singer Ken Casey ripped a fan for waving a MAGA hat in the audience. “This is America, there’s no kings here,” he said from the stage. “Anyway, if you mind, sir, we’re gonna play a song about our grandparents and people who fought N*zis in the war and shi*. So if you could just shut the f*ck up for five minutes.”
Not long after, the band’s X account was deactivated. Casey recently told Rolling Stone that the account going down, however, had nothing to do with his criticism of President Donald Trump. “We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a N*zi,” Casey said. “Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that — which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended.”
Casey continued: “Look, we pulled our account because we didn’t want to be part of that guy’s empire. But if we were still on there, I’m sure he would have suspended us by now.”
Recent events haven’t marked the first time that Casey has spoken out against Trump. He went off at a 2022 show in Allentown, Pennsylvania over pro-Trump merch being sold at the fair the band was playing. “I felt like we were playing a MAGA flea market,” Casey said. “Every other table was selling the MAGA gear and the ‘F*ck Joe Biden’ gear and all this stuff. I was a little overwhelmed and befuddled. It was like I was dropped into another planet.”
