During this week’s episode of Dynamite, Kazuchika Okada joined forces with the Young Bucks to create a new version of The Elite, and subsequently, Tokyo Sports reported that the former New Japan wrestler had signed a three-year deal worth around $4.5 million annually. However, it turns out this isn’t accurate, as Dave Meltzer has noted in the latest issue of his Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “The real number is considerably lower, but it was still a very large number that he signed for.”
Pro wrestlers are generally underpaid compared to other athletes, and had Tokyo Sport’s figures been correct, Okada would have been one of the highest-paid wrestlers in the world. Still, given that Okada recruited super agent Barry Bloom to represent him in negotiations with both AEW and WWE, it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that the Japanese star is now one of Tony Khan’s top earners alongside Chris Jericho and The Young Bucks.
