Chris Jericho Shares His Feelings On WCW

On the latest episode of “Talk Is Jericho,” Chris is joined by “Dark Side Of The Ring” creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisener. The pair is also behind the new 4-part documentary series “Who Killed WCW?” They cover a variety of topics related to the show and also talk about the rise and fall of WCW in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Jericho, who was there from 1996 to 1999, shared his feelings on his 3-year run with the promotion.

“There was a lot of positives to WCW,” Jericho said. “When I look back on my WCW time, I don’t think of negativity at all. Obviously, there was stuff that wasn’t great. But listen, there’s stuff that wasn’t great in WWE, WAR, ECW, AEW and Smoky Mountain … it’s the wrestling business. You know what I mean?”

Jericho said that he likely views the company a little more fondly than those featured in “Who Killed WCW” having left in 1999 before things really started to go downhill. He did, however, go on to share one of the biggest reasons for his exit from the company.

“I thought Goldberg was great on the show,” Jericho said of the new series. “Bill doesn’t pull any punches. He calls it straight. This program that Goldberg and I had (in WCW), which was really hot, people got into Goldberg’s head and told him not to do it because I was too small or a Cruiserweight or whatever. As soon as I knew that (angle) wasn’t gonna happen, that’s when I knew I had to leave. Because that was the chance to get to the next step.”

Jericho lamented the fact that many of the Cruiserweights and mid-card talent couldn’t get the opportunity to reach their potential within WCW. “There were so many guys like Eddie Guerrero who was red hot as a heel,” he said. “You could’ve easily put him into the ring with (Randy) Savage or whoever the babyfaces were, if it was Luger or Sting or whoever it may be, and it would’ve been huge. Benoit as well, Jericho … a lot of the guys. We couldn’t get past that literal glass ceiling, and that was a problem in WCW. The biggest problem that I can name was that.”
