In 2021, AEW looked to benefit from Nick Gage’s “Dark Side of the Ring” fame by bringing him in to wrestle Chris Jericho in a No Rules match. Yet while the bout was well received and scored **** from Dave Meltzer, the big talking point online was that a Domino advert had aired while Gage was busy slicing Jericho with a pizza cutter. Obviously, this hadn’t been planned beforehand and was just an unfortunate coincidence, although it was reported afterward that the pizza chain was disgruntled.

And now, during an interview with Inside The Ropes, which has just been shared on their YouTube channel, the current ROH Champion has addressed this by confirming Domino’s did really get in touch, although he feels they should have capitalized by filming a new commercial around hima and Gage.

“Domino’s got in touch briefly after that match, that was hilarious … Apparently, Domino’s was furious. People were saying, ‘AEW is going to lose all their sponsors. This is it. This is the end of the line. But nothing ever happened. Honestly, if I were the Domino’s guy, I would have filmed a Chris Jericho/Nick Gage commercial the next day. I mean, it’s right there, pizza cutters and Domino’s go hand in hand.”Chris Jericho

Following the match, some fans thought that Gage may have earned an AEW contract after Jericho allowed him to shine in the national spotlight. However, he wouldn’t appear for the company again, and to mainstream fans, his 15 minutes of fame have expired. Still, to fans of deathmatches, Gage is still going strong, and just last month, he wrestled on CZW’s 26th Anniversary show, which is the promotion his career started off with back in 1999.
