Mariah May has managed to go from a virtually unknown talent to one of the faces of AEW’s women’s division. However, it was recently claimed that with her contract expiring later this year, she was seriously considering a jump to WWE, with it known that she grew up watching Raw and SmackDown.
And now it appears that her AEW departure is all but guaranteed after Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of his Wrestling Observer Newsletter that she had told the promotion prior to last month’s Revolution pay-per-view that she wouldn’t be re-signing.
26-year-old May began her pro wrestling career as a ring announcer in the UK in 2018, and not long afterward, she commenced her in-ring training. Subsequently, she would attend a tryout for NXT UK, but WWE opted not to sign her, which was likely a devastating blow for her at the time. Still, she wouldn’t give up on her dream, and after working for Japan’s Stardom promotion, Tony Khan would bring her to AEW, having recognized her star potential.
