While he is all but gone from the US wrestling scene, former WWE star Alberto Del Rio, who now wrestles as Alberto El Patrón, remains a big deal in Mexico. However, he has now found himself involved in controversy south of the border after getting into a chair-throwing fight with coin-throwing fans during AAA’s Friday night show, which saw an older woman injured.

And now proving that this situation is being taken very seriously, lucha libre expert @RobViper has reported on X that the Tijuana Commission has suspended the 47-year-old from wrestling in the popular tourist destination for the next six months.

In 2020, Alberto Del Rio was accused by an ex-girlfriend of some horrific offenses, including kidnapping and assault. Yet after the alleged victim recanted her story and a witness failed to attend the trial, the case was closed. Still, despite Del Rio no longer having this hanging over his head, no major promotions have shown any interest in working with him except for AAA, with booker Konnan defending this decision by saying, “Whatever happened with him and his past girlfriend is between him and them. That doesn’t really concern us unless he’s convicted.
