Classic rocker John Mellencamp made news recently when he nearly cut his show early in response to an audience member shouting for him to “play some music.” He briefly walked off stage before composing himself and finishing the set.

He later clarified in an interview with The Washington Post that if fans are planning to drink in excess at his concerts, he’d rather they stay home. “I do expect etiquette inside of the theater, the same way you would at a Broadway show,” he said. “My shows are not really concerts anymore. They’re performances, and there’s a difference between a performance and a concert.”

He added: “Look, I’m not for everyone anymore. I’m just not. And if you want to come and scream and yell and get drunk, don’t come to my show.”

With Mellencamp making the news for berating an audience member, a clip from a Wallflowers concert last year has begun making the rounds where frontman Jakob Dylan calls Mellencamp an “a*shole.”

Dylan asks the Indiana audience where Mellencamp is from. The former “Johnny Cougar” is from Seymour, Indiana, and The Wallflowers were performing in Carmel. “Do you love him?” Dylan asks to a smattering of cheers. “You do? Can I tell you that I don’t? Did you open up for his band? If you get a chance, don’t open up for his band. His band was lovely. His band was awesome. He’s an a*shole.”

Dylan continued: “You’ve never heard me say that about anybody else. That motherf*cker is such a pr*ck.” Dylan’s full exchange with the audience about Mellencamp can be viewed below.
