Speculated Reason Jacob Fatu’s WWE Debut Took So Long To Happen

Jacob Fatu finished with MLW this past February, and it was noted just before WrestleMania XL that WWE had signed him. However, while he has now made his debut during this week’s SmckDown, taking out Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens, the reason for the delay has sparked curiosity. And now, a likely cause for this wait has been speculated by Fightful Select, who suggested his criminal record, which would have prevented him from attending Backlash in France or Clash at the Castle In Scotland, was the potential reason.

“On recent Fightful Podcasts, it had been noted that Jacob Fatu had never wrestled outside of the United States. MLW sources had previously indicated that was because of Fatu’s criminal record when he was younger, in a life he left far behind. However, it was noted that prevented him from accepting bookings outside the United States. We’re not sure if that will be the case moving forward, but we were told that with the huge number of international PLE events and television tapings WWE had in the Spring and summer, that it was a likely hurdle.”

32-year-old Fatu broke into the business back in 2012 after being trained by his uncle Rikishi, and since then, he has slowly been building up his reputation on the indies and MLW. Still, it’s understood that some larger promotions were put off using the father of seven due to his aforementioned criminal record, which saw him incarcerated for six years as an 18-year-old for robbery.
