There had been a great deal of speculation as to who Slipknot would reveal as their new drummer after the band sacked Jay Weinberg last year. Prior to the band’s official announcement, Slipknot fans figured it out that former Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande was getting the spot. He made his first appearances with the band on April 25 at an intimate show in Pioneertown, California and again on April 27 in Las Vegas for the Sick New World festival.

Casagrande made his first statement as a member of the band via Instagram: “It’s an exciting moment. Unthinkable until then. There is nothing to lose, there is nothing to win. There is just living. We’re here as one. Thank you Slipknot for trusting me. Thanks all the maggots and fans around the world. See you on the road. Here comes more pain.”

For both of the band’s recent gigs, Slipknot brought back their red jumpsuits and elements of their early masks, circa 1999,  into their modern versions, tying into the fact that the band is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Weinberg has since joined Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves.

Sepultura frontman Derrick Green previously praised Casagrande saying: “It’s undeniable because he’s such a strong force. He loves playing metal music. He’s one of the most talented drummers I’ve ever seen, honestly. That power is consistent from beginning to the end. It really has rubbed off on all of us to really push ourselves further. He’s such a perfect match for the band. He really is always influencing us in so many ways to really go beyond — above and beyond.”
