Long-Serving WWE Talent Is No Longer With The Company

Seemingly, the idea of WWE lifers is no more, as it has been reported by PWInsider.com that Jerry “The King” Lawler is no longer with the company following the expiration of his latest contract. Apparently, his deal actually expired at the start of the year, but the news has only now become public knowledge. This is especially unexpected as Lawler is known to not be in the best of health, having suffered a second stroke in February 2023. Additionally, he previously had an on-air heart attack, and thus, it was thought WWE would look after him into his twilight years.

“WWE Hall of Famer and one of the all time greatest professional wrestlers of all time, Jerry Lawler is no longer with World Wrestling Entertainment, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources. PWInsider.com is told that WWE quietly declined to renew Lawler’s broadcast contract, ending a relationship between the two that began back in December 1992 when he shockingly appeared on an episode of WWF Prime Time Wrestling. Sources close to the matter have confirmed Lawler’s WWE deal expired at the onset of 2024.”

As a wrestler and commentator, 74-year-old Lawler has been with WWE on and off since 1992. Still, he last worked a full-time schedule for the company several years ago. Nevertheless, he remained an active wrestler on the independent circuit, wrestling semi-frequently until his stroke. However, considering his current health status, it would be surprising if he were ever to compete again.
