MJF is one of AEW’s biggest stars, and his homegrown status makes him even more significant to the promotion. However, he has been out of action due to injury since World’s End, when he dropped the AEW Championship to Samoa Joe. And now, according to a new report by PWInsider.com, he is still recuperating, although he was in Boston last month to meet with AEW management.
“We are told he is still working to recover from his multiple injuries. While he is not listed on the AEW roster, the belief is he remains locked into a deal with the company. While he was not in attendance at AEW Big Business in Boston a few weeks back, PWInsider.com has confirmed that the day after that event, MJF was in Boston to meet with AEW officials.”

Yet, that was always impossible, with multiple sources having previously confirmed he has a long-term AEW deal. Although it does seem inevitable that one day, he will want to explore free agency and see if WWE can compete with Tony Khan’s deep pockets.
