Jon Moxley Reveals What He Was Doing When The Shield’s Music Played At WrestleMania XL

When The Shield’s iconic entrance music played during the main event of Wrestlemania XL night 2, for a brief moment, fans worldwide believed AEW’s Jon Moxley was about to appear. Obviously, this didn’t occur, with Seth Rollins emerging alone, and Tony Khan subsequently confirmed WWE didn’t ask him about Moxley making a one-off appearance. And now, during an interview with Sports Illustrated, Moxley would note he was actually sleeping during the moment and only found out about it when checking messages the following day.

“I was asleep in Japan when that was going on, when I woke up, I had these messages saying, ‘I thought you were coming out!’ And I was like, ‘Coming out where?’ It’s cool that people thought it was me. But I was asleep.”

The Shield, nicknamed “The Hounds of Justice,” consisting of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Jon Moxley, then called Dean Ambrose, debuted as a group at the 2012 Survivor Series, initially as a backup for CM Punk. However, thanks to a mega push and the fact that all three men were immensely talented, they soon became a dominant force on their own. Yet it seems doubtful the trio will ever reunite, as while Reigns and Rollins are still with the company, Moxley has previously expressed he has no desire to return, with him having proven you can be very successful away from the WWE machine.
