Goldberg Criticized For Misogynist Comment Regarding Asuka

Bill Goldberg was one of the biggest pro wrestling names in the business during the ’90s, and a massive part of this was his highly publicized winning streak, which lasted for over a year and was promoted as 174-0. However, almost twenty years later, Asuka would surpass this number and remained undefeated for a staggering 914 days. And now, while appearing on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, Goldberg has addressed his record being broken and in the process, caused controversy on social media by referring to Asuka as “some Japanese girl.

“A girl beat my winning streak, beat my undefeated streak. Yeah, I can’t even remember ‘A-soo-ka’ is her name. Some Japanese girl. And they touted her as being the one to have the longest winning streak.”

Many actually dispute Goldberg’s streak, claiming WCW inflated the number, and in fact, the WWE Hall of Famer wasn’t even undefeated during the run as he lost a dark match to Chad Fortune a few weeks after debuting. Similarly, Asuka’s streak isn’t totally legitimate, as Eva Marie eliminated her from a battle royal three months into her NXT career. Additionally, she failed to win a fatal four-way match also involving Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and Emma, although as she didn’t get pinned or made to submit, WWE ignored this.
