Former WWE Star Wins AAA’s Top Championship At Triplemanía (w/Video)

Following the news that El Hijo del Vikingo had to vacate the AAA Mega Championship due to a torn meniscus, it was announced that former WWE stars El Patrón Alberto and Nic Nemeth would compete at Triplemanía XXXII: Monterrey to crown a new champion. And now, with the event having taken place, Nemeth has emerged victorious after hitting his fellow WWE rival with a Zig Zag. A video of this can be viewed below.

For those unaware, the Mega Championship is considered AAA’s top singles belt, having been created in 2007, and including Nemeth there have been 19 championship reigns split over 12 wrestlers. These include big-name luchadors like Rey Fénix and Dr. Wagner Jr., as well as international talents such as Kenny Omega and Jeff Jarrett. Typically, the belt is known for its long reigns over a handful of title defenses; however, Vikingo had been frequently defending the championship in outside promotions, including AEW, ROH, and GCW.
