Fans Are Unhappy With Dave Meltzer’s Star Rating For Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes

Dave Meltzer’s star ratings are totally irrelevant to some people, yet to others, they are the be-all and end-all. And now, following the release of the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, those who take them seriously are sharing their frustration, as the wrestling journalist did not give Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes from WrestleMania XL five stars. Instead, Meltzer would give it 4.75 stars, which has seen fans on social media joke that it just missed out because it didn’t take place at the Tokyo Dome or feature The Young Bucks.

Meltzer began his rating system back in 1982, and while most fans think five stars is the definition of a flawless match, in 2018, Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega at Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-jo Hall was given seven stars. Therefore, for those who follow Meltzer’s ratings religiously, this is considered the greatest match ever, and with Will Ospreay having the most individual five-star matches with 37, he is in contention for best in-ring performer of all time.
