Details Revealed On New Chris Jericho Horror Film

Last year it was announced that Chris Jericho would star in a new wrestling-themed horror film, “Dark Match.” Variety now reports that the movie will see its premiere later this year. Blue Finch Films has purchased the worldwide distribution rights (excluding Canada), and festival dates for the film’s first screenings will be announced soon.

The movie is set in the ’80s, and the film’s description reads: “A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.”

In addition to Jericho, the cast also includes Ayisha Issa (Transplant), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries), Michael Eklund (Wynonna Earp) and Jonathan Cherry (Goon). It was produced by John MacDonald and written and directed by Lowell Dean (Wolfcop).

Mike Chapman of Blue Finch Films commented: “We quickly fell in love with the film’s heady blend of action and the occult upon reading Lowell’s page-turning script. The whole team has put together a genre film that delivers on all fronts and will thrill audiences.”

Jericho previously wrote via social media: Jericho wrote on Facebook: “Stoked to announce the killer new flick #DarkMatch that I co-starred in and executive produced! Such a great experience filming in #Edmonton with @dept.9studios and it’s going to blow some minds! I play the EEEVIL cult leader and it was an honor to work with the supremely talented cast, including @ogg_steven, @ayishaissa, @michaelseklund & the awesome @lolofilm! Can’t wait for it to be released…it’s such a creepy, gory flick…perfect for Halloween! @deadline.”

Jericho has appeared in numerous films including “MacGruber,” “Sharknado 3,” “Terrifier 2” and the 2019 re-boot of “Jay and Silent Bob.” He also teamed with author and filmmaker Jay Bonansinga on psychological thriller “Self Storage.”
