CM Punk had to vacate the AEW Championship after suffering a triceps injury and requiring surgery. It was initially thought the damage could have happened during the now infamous backstage fight with The Elite. However, it was later confirmed that it occurred on the topé spot during the match. And while this possibly explains why he was extra cranky during the media scrum, it’s still hard to justify his unprofessional behavior. Now though, the failed UFC fighter has broken cover and appeared in a photo for the first time since the incident. With this showing him post-surgery and his arm in a brace.
What the future holds for Punk remains to be seen, as it certainly appears he has burnt his bridge with AEW. Although considering it would take a lot of money to buy him out of contract, there is a slight chance he could return, as there is undoubtedly money to be made with a heel Punk. Ultimately though, the decision lies with Tony Khan, and given the recovery time for a triceps injury is long, he has several months to decide.
