Clarification On Jerry Lawler’s WWE Status Following Report Of His Departure

On Monday, PWInsider.com reported that Jerry “The King” Lawler’s WWE contract had been allowed to expire, which shocked many fans because he’d been connected to the promotion on and off since 1992. However, the news source has since revealed via X that WWE reached out to them to clarify that the WWE Hall of Famer still has a WWE Legends contract and, thus, is still attached to the company via that.

For those who may not be familiar with WWE Legends contracts, these grant the company rights to a wrestler’s likeness for merchandise and video games. It also typically includes a set fee for television appearances. And while these agreements sometimes include exclusivity to WWE, each one is tailored to the specific talent, which explains why Jake Roberts can work for AEW but still have action figures produced by WWE’s partner Mattel. Additionally, the payment each talent receives varies significantly, as one would expect, with names like The Undertaker and Steve Austin obviously being paid far more than The Boogeyman or Lex Luger.
